About Sampann

SAMPANN was formed in 2010 to work with working poor involved in informal sectors. It has been working with these poor to provide them with livelihood and food security and dignity. It revolves around micro finance and micro credit activities with the involvement of Groups. In this way SAMPANN make them economically strong. Waste Management is started as the remedy of pain and grief of waste pickers. In order to provide dignity and livelihood security, Waste Management, a ABHIYAN was Started in February 2012. This ABHIYAN has taken up the task of making Muzaffarpur garbage free. It has stated a cleanliness movement. The main objective of this ABHIYAN is zero waste management by ensuring that dry recycle waste and the organic waste is segregated at the source .i.e. at household level. Safai Mitras are the backbone of this ABHIYAN. This ABHIYAN try to improve the work condition of Safai Mitras by transforming them into professional service provider. Secondly, there prime aim is to help them to get dignity for their work and make them more connected with mainstream society. SAMPANN realize that it is important that people don’t look at them as waste picker but as service provider. The members of this ABHIYAN not only benefit through its membership, which provides regular employment. Sampann has other ongoing projects relating to health and education from which also benefits members.
